Ingredients
  

  • 4 large eggs
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • Ground nutmeg for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Heat the milk in a saucepan until just warm, not boiling.
  • Slowly add warm milk to the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
  • Pour the custard into 6 ramekins or a baking dish.
  • Place ramekins in a larger baking pan and add hot water halfway up the sides.
  • Sprinkle nutmeg over the top.
  • Bake for 45–50 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from water bath, cool slightly, and serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Use fresh eggs and whole milk for the creamiest texture.
  • A pinch of cinnamon can be added for extra warmth.
