Cheese Bread: Easy, Cheesy Homemade Bread Recipe

A quick and easy homemade cheese bread loaded with sharp cheddar cheese and a hint of garlic powder. Soft and tender inside with a golden cheesy crust, this bread is perfect as a side with soups, stews, or enjoyed on its own as a savory snack.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter cooled
  • 1⅓ cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, garlic powder, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Stir in 2 cups of the shredded cheese.
  • In another bowl, beat melted butter, buttermilk, and eggs until combined.
  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and fold gently until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the loaf pan and smooth the top.
  • Sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Cover loosely with foil.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to a rack. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep bread tender.
  • Use sharp cheddar for best flavor, but feel free to experiment with other cheeses.
  • Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
