Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk for a lighter texture
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Soften ingredients: Ensure cream cheese and butter are softened to room temperature.
  • Beat cream cheese and butter: Beat cream cheese and butter in a large bowl until smooth and creamy.
  • Add powdered sugar: Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, beating until fully incorporated.
  • Mix in vanilla and cream: Add vanilla extract, heavy cream, and salt, then beat until light and fluffy.
  • Adjust consistency: Add more cream (1 tsp at a time) if too thick, or more powdered sugar if too thin.
  • Use or store: Spread frosting on warm cinnamon rolls or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Storage: Refrigerate frosting in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months; thaw and stir before using.
  • Substitutions: Use milk instead of heavy cream for a lighter texture; swap vanilla extract for almond extract for a unique flavor.
  • Application Tip: Spread on warm (not hot) cinnamon rolls for a melty, gooey finish; chill for 10 minutes for a thicker frosting.
  • Prevent Lumps: Sift powdered sugar to ensure a smooth texture; beat thoroughly to avoid graininess.
  • Serving Ideas: Use on cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, or as a dip for fruit or pretzels.
