- 6 medium tart apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg optional
- ¼ cup apple cider or water
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water optional for thickening
Peel, core, and slice apples into even wedges.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add apples, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Stir to coat apples and cook 10–12 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.
Add apple cider or water; cook 2–3 minutes more.
If thicker sauce is desired, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.
Serve warm as a side dish or topping.
