Ingredients
  

  • 6 medium tart apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • tsp ground nutmeg optional
  • ¼ cup apple cider or water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water optional for thickening

Instructions
 

  • Peel, core, and slice apples into even wedges.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add apples, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Stir to coat apples and cook 10–12 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Add apple cider or water; cook 2–3 minutes more.
  • If thicker sauce is desired, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.
  • Serve warm as a side dish or topping.

Notes

  • Best served fresh, but can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently before serving.
  • Great with pancakes, pork chops, or ice cream.
