Quesitos are a beloved Puerto Rican pastry filled with sweetened cream cheese and wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Golden, buttery, and slightly sticky with sugar glaze, they’re perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack. Easy to make at home with just a few ingredients!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp honey or light corn syrup for glaze
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar for sprinkling

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut into 4-inch squares.
  • Place 1 tbsp cream cheese filling in the center of each square.
  • Fold the pastry over filling (corner to corner or envelope style) and seal edges.
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden and puffy.
  • Warm honey or corn syrup and brush over baked quesitos for shine.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can add guava paste along with cream cheese for a traditional flavor.
  • Best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days.
  • Use store-bought puff pastry for ease, but homemade works too!
