Quesitos are a beloved Puerto Rican pastry filled with sweetened cream cheese and wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Golden, buttery, and slightly sticky with sugar glaze, they’re perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack. Easy to make at home with just a few ingredients!

- 1 package puff pastry sheets thawed
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp honey or light corn syrup for glaze
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar for sprinkling
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut into 4-inch squares.
Place 1 tbsp cream cheese filling in the center of each square.
Fold the pastry over filling (corner to corner or envelope style) and seal edges.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden and puffy.
Warm honey or corn syrup and brush over baked quesitos for shine.
Let cool slightly before serving.
- You can add guava paste along with cream cheese for a traditional flavor.
- Best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days.
- Use store-bought puff pastry for ease, but homemade works too!
