- 6 ½ lbs apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- 4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Place apples in crock pot.
Add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; stir well.
Cover and cook on low for 9-10 hours, stirring occasionally, until apples are thick and dark brown.
Stir in vanilla extract.
Purée with an immersion blender until smooth.
Ladle hot apple butter into sterilized jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace.
Process in a boiling water canner for 10 minutes.
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
- Adjust sugar based on apple sweetness.
- For a thicker butter, cook uncovered for the last hour.
