Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Combine ground beef, panko, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  • Form into 4 patties.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet; brown patties 2-3 minutes per side, remove and set aside.
  • Add sliced onions and butter to skillet; cook until caramelized (5-6 minutes).
  • Stir in flour to make a roux; cook 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer until thickened.
  • Return patties to skillet; cover and simmer 5-10 minutes until cooked through.
  • Serve hot with gravy spooned over the top

Notes

For extra flavor, add a bit of maple syrup or brown sugar to onions during caramelizing. Leftovers reheat well. Serve with mashed potatoes for a classic combo. Use lean ground beef for less fat or mix with pork for juicier patties.
