Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread sliced in half lengthwise
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or mixed dried herbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, herbs, and salt until well combined.
  • Spread the garlic-herb butter evenly over the cut sides of the bread halves.
  • If using, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Place bread halves on a baking sheet, buttered side up.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and crispy on edges.
  • Slice and serve warm.

Notes

For extra crispness, broil for 1-2 minutes after baking (watch closely). Fresh garlic offers the best flavor, but garlic powder can be substituted. Store leftovers tightly wrapped to keep soft.
