Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt optional

Instructions
 

  • Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a heavy saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and condensed milk.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 245°F (firm ball stage).
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract (and salt if using).
  • Pour into prepared dish and let cool completely.
  • Cut into squares and wrap in wax paper.

Notes

  • Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
  • Add a sprinkle of sea salt on top before cooling for salted caramels.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
