- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt optional
Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
In a heavy saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and condensed milk.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 245°F (firm ball stage).
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract (and salt if using).
Pour into prepared dish and let cool completely.
Cut into squares and wrap in wax paper.
- Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
- Add a sprinkle of sea salt on top before cooling for salted caramels.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
