In-N-Out Copycat Animal Style Fries: Easy, Cheesy Recipe
A beloved secret menu item at In-N-Out, Animal Style Fries are crispy French fries topped with melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and a zesty special sauce. This easy copycat recipe lets you enjoy this indulgent treat right at home, perfect for snacks, game days, or movie nights.
Ingredients
- Caramelized Onions
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 yellow onion diced
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Copycat Special Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 7 tablespoons ketchup
- 5 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- Fries
- 30 ounces frozen shoestring French fries
- 8 slices American cheese
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: Melt butter in a large pan over medium-low heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in sugar and increase heat to medium. Cook, stirring frequently, until onions darken and caramelize, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Make Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, and sweet pickle relish. Set aside.
- Bake Fries: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake until crisp and lightly browned, about 20-26 minutes.
- Add Cheese: Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C). Top fries with American cheese slices and bake another 2-3 minutes until melted.
- Assemble: Drizzle fries with special sauce and sprinkle caramelized onions on top. Serve immediately.
