- 4 pieces of chicken e.g., drumsticks and thighs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Oil for frying
Marinate Chicken: Place chicken pieces in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let them marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
Prepare Breading Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Bread the Chicken: Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture until well-coated.
Heat Oil: In a deep skillet or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
Fry Chicken: Carefully place breaded chicken pieces into the hot oil. Fry for 10-12 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the coating is golden brown.
Drain and Serve: Remove chicken from oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm.
- Marinating the chicken in buttermilk helps tenderize the meat and adds flavor.
- Ensure the oil maintains a consistent temperature for even cooking.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm the chicken is cooked through.
