- 1¼ cups milk
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup butter softened or melted
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 large egg
- 1¼ teaspoons salt
- 4¼ to 4½ cups all-purpose flour
- Additional melted butter for brushing
Warm milk until steaming but not boiling; combine with water, butter, and sugar in mixing bowl.
Add yeast, let sit 5-7 minutes until foamy.
Mix in egg, salt, and 3¾ to 4 cups flour gradually. Add more flour as needed to form a soft dough.
Knead dough for 5-6 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, until doubled (about 1 hour).
Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces; shape into balls.
Place rolls into a greased 9x13-inch pan, cover and rise until puffed (30-45 minutes).
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Brush tops with melted butter and serve warm.
- Use warm water and milk to properly activate yeast.
- Don’t add too much flour; dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Brushing with butter after baking keeps rolls soft and shiny.
- Store leftovers wrapped tightly; reheat before serving for softness.
