Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
  • Place over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to thicken and bubble.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook 1-2 minutes, stirring until thickened.
  • Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla until fully incorporated.
  • Pour into serving dishes; cool to room temperature, then chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Serve plain or topped with fresh berries.

Notes

For extra richness, use part heavy cream; dust with cinnamon or nutmeg before serving for added flavor.
