- 3 cans cut green beans drained
- 6 strips bacon
- 1 cup onion diced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: red pepper flakes for heat
Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp; remove and crumble.
Sauté diced onions in reserved bacon grease until translucent (about 5 minutes).
Add green beans, chicken broth, sugar, and pepper to the skillet; stir and bring to a light simmer.
Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and liquid to reduce.
Stir the crumbled bacon back in and adjust seasoning as needed.
Serve hot as a flavorful side dish.
Adding a splash of red wine vinegar or a dash of garlic powder can enhance flavor complexity. Fresh green beans can be substituted but canned are preferred for authenticity.
